Deluxe Cranberry Sauce

Cranberries are packed with nutrients and antioxidants, so don't skip the Cranberry Sauce this holiday season! I made this variation on the traditional cranberry sauce will all organic fruits, dried fruit, and sliced almonds. You can substitute the sugar with splenda or stevia if you like. The whole house smells like Christmas time when the cranberry sauce is simmering.

Deluxe Cranberry Sauce

12 oz. fresh cranberries, rinsed

1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 pear, chopped
1 Granny Smith apple, chopped
1/4 cup dried apricots, chopped
1/4 cup dried cherries, chopped
1 1/2 handfuls of slivered almonds
juice of 1 sweet orange
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg

Bring cranberries, water, and sugar to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until the berries begin to burst. Add chopped fruit and continue to simmer until softened. Stir in almonds, orange juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Simmer for a few more minutes. Refrigerate over night or until serving time. Stir well and serve in a relish dish.

I made this recipe again, and it was a success. I used 1/2 cup of dried apricot and left out the dried cherries.
