Ham and Bean Soup

Here's my grandfather's recipe for Ham and Bean Soup, created from leftover ham from Christmas and other tasty fixings.

Ham and Bean Soup

1 cup each sliced or diced celery, cabbage and onion

1-2 TBS olive oil
2-4 cups chicken broth
1 cup diced ham
1/2 lb. sliced polish sausage
2-4 cups cooked white beans (great northern or navy)
1 tsp sugar
salt, red and black pepper to taste

Saute vegetables in oil until tender, add remaining ingredients and simmer.

Cornbread is an ideal accompaniment.

Thanks to for letting us borrow the picture from a different recipe. It looks close enough to our recipe until we get a snapshot of our own.
