Here's my grandfather's recipe for Ham and Bean Soup, created from leftover ham from Christmas and other tasty fixings. Thanks to RecipeTips.com for letting us borrow the picture from a different recipe. It looks close enough to our recipe until we get a snapshot of our own.
Ham and Bean Soup
1 cup each sliced or diced celery, cabbage and onion
1-2 TBS olive oil
2-4 cups chicken broth
1 cup diced ham
1/2 lb. sliced polish sausage
2-4 cups cooked white beans (great northern or navy)
1 tsp sugar
salt, red and black pepper to taste
Saute vegetables in oil until tender, add remaining ingredients and simmer.
Cornbread is an ideal accompaniment.
